Space Micro Awarded Space RF communication chip R&D Enables very high data rate space communications SAN DIEGO, CA –April 26, 2005 – Space Micro Inc. has been selected for research and development of innovative modulation and Forward Error Correction (FEC) coding technology that will enable very high data rate, bandwidth, and power efficient RF communications. This effort is being partially supported by NASA under a Phase I SBIR contract. This work will culminate with the development and availability of a commercially available, low power ASIC modulator which enable very high data rate and bandwidth for space RF communications. The Space Micro ASIC will be radiation tolerant to both the total ionizing dose and the single event effects in space orbits. “We are very pleased to have the opportunity to partner with NASA Goddard to bring this technology into the solution set for satellite designers, said Mr. Peter Nolan, Product Manager at Space Micro. “We believe this program is an important step in meeting NASA's future data transmission requirements”. p; Space Micro's Turbo coded OFDM modulator will also employ radiation hardening techniques such as demonstrated on the Air Force Roadrunner program. Combining these technologies into lower cost space qualified standard products will allow application to virtually every satellite and space probe. About Space Micro Inc.
