Space Micro Inc. awarded space communications transponder contract. Universal transmit and receive module in development. SAN DIEGO, CA – April 4, 2008 - Space Micro Inc. announced today that is has received an award for a Phase I SBIR Contract from NASA Glenn Research Center for research and development of a novel miniaturized radiation hard universal transmit and receive (UTR) modulator/demodulator module. The UTR will be fabricated using conventional integrated circuit technology, such as SiGe or GaAs. The UTR provides a direct conversion receiver (RF to baseband), and direct conversion transmitter (baseband to RF). Operational range is 1~32 GHz. David R. Czajkowski, CTO and Manager of the RF and Microwave Division commented: “Space Micro is pleased to be funded from NASA on the UTR development. The plan is to develop and then productize the UTR technology and provide satellite designers with a device that offers RF space communications a more flexible RF modulation method, permitting widely differing frequency bands in the same device.” “Our approach to meeting NASA needs is to highly leverage commercial-off-the-shelf COTS technologies including commercially available RF IC foundries”, “said David J. Strobel, President and CEO at Space Micro”. Phase I is on track to be completed in July 2008, which will validate the technical feasibility of this concept. About Space Micro Inc.
