SPACE MICRO PROTON100K™ Computer in Space
TacSat-2 Launch Success

San Diego, CA - December 20, 2006 Space Micro, Inc (SDMI) announced today that its Proton100k™ Space Computer was launched successfully aboard the NASA TacSat-2 Micro Satellite December 16 at 7 am, EST. The Proton100k™ Radiation Hardened Single Board Computer (RH SBC) is the instrument computer of the Air Force Research Laboratory"s (AFRL) RoadRunner On-board Processing Experiment (ROPE), performing data management and processing of focal plane array data. ROPE is one of 11 on-board instrument packages which range from Enhanced Commercial Imager to Integrated GPS Occultation Receiver (IGOR). Space Micro also supplied the 64 Gbit Solid State Recorder (SSR) which together made up the core of the on-board processing unit.

The Proton100kTM is the 1st generation design of a line of the fastest, lowest-power radiation-hardened computer available in the industry today. It is capable of 1,200 MIPS performance at a Single Event Upset (SEU) rate of 1E-4 unrecoverable errors/day using only 7-9 Watts of power. The Proton100k also has a total dose tolerance of >100 krad (Si). Protection from SEUs is achieved using Space Micro"s patent-pending Time-Triple Modular RedundancyTM (TTMRTM) approach, while Single Event Functional Interrupts (SEFIs) are mitigated using the patent-pending H-CoreTM (Hardened CoreTM) technology. TTMR allows 1 processor to do the work of 3 required with the older generation of this radiation mitigation technology. 2nd. Generation Proton200k™ offers even faster 4,000 MIPS performance using only 5 Watts power.
