Space Micro Inc. Reaches Milestone on CCAT Contract
Radiation Detection technology aids in Homeland Defense

SAN DIEGO, CA - April 9, 2007- Space Micro Inc. has reached a key milestone on a robotics contract with the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technology (CCAT). This milestone demonstrated the identification and localization capability using an actual radiation source that simulates a radiation threat in an urban environment. CCAT, which is supported and funded partly by congress, assists in discovering technology to aid our military defense systems. Space Micro Inc. is integrating their Radiation Source Identification and Targeting (RadSITE™) innovation onto a US Government Robotic Platform for this program. The RadSITE™ not only remotely detects and identifies Gamma Sources, but is also uses a unique signal processing technique that will provide the Robot with simultaneous threat Azimuth Directions.

Space Micro Inc. Program Manager Mr. James Winso commented: "RadSITE™ enables the Robot to see where the Radiation Threat is coming from and autonomously tracks it down". Commercially fielded Radiation Detectors do a fine job of identifying Gamma Radiation Fields, but are not able to determine the direction of the source; this is a vital need for radiological assessment missions to enable Military Personnel and First Responders to find the radiation source.

Directional Gamma Finding is complicated by the fact that earth"s environment includes naturally occurring and legitimate medical and industrial sources, which adversely could be used to camouflage threats. By overcoming these limitations, RadSITE™ along with emerging Robotics Technologies being developed by CCAT, will play a significant role for improving the nation"s radiation threat response capability.

Since its inception in 2001 CCAT has been dedicated to bridging the gap between academia, industry, and government. CCAT is devoted to bring together the generators of technology, the Department of Defense, and the commercial marketplace. They are partnered with prestige research institutions such as the SDSU research foundation and the Jacobs School of Engineering at UCSD.
