Space Micro Awarded Navy Contract
Technology being developed for Non-Destructive Test of Marine Structures

SAN DIEGO, CA - April 16, 2007- Space Micro Inc. was awarded a SBIR Phase I Navy Contract, with NAVSEA, in December 2006 for NDT approaches in Marine Aluminum Structures. This new technology will help increase the detection of cracks, corrosion, and defects in composite structures. Corrosion in aluminum, for example can increase the rate of mechanical failure. Therefore, marine aluminum structures need periodic examination to check for cracks and other defects before they become critical in size. NDT offers an automated solution for testing these composite structures

Carl Edwards, Director of Space Micro"s Advanced Materials Division commented: "Our technique will address the need for systematic inspection of naval ships via a non contact large field-of-view technique."
