NASA IRIS X-Band Transmitter Subcontract Award to Space Micro from Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company
SAN DIEGO, CA – October 25, 2010 – Space Micro announced today that it has been selected by Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company (LMSSC), Prime Contractor for NASA IRIS Program, to build the X-Band Transmitter for this science satellite. IRIS (Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph) is a new NASA SMEX (Small Explorer Mission) satellite.
Space Micro’s Radiation Hardened uX-Tx™ X-Band Transmitter features choice of analog or DSP based modulation to include 8PSK/OQPSK/BPSK etc. operating modes, reconfigurable center frequency (no waiting for final channel assignment and crystal ordering), output power choices from 1W to 25W, and small form factor (6” x 7”). Error correction coding options include Convolutional, Reed-Solomon and Low Density Parity Check (LDPC). Space Micro uX-Tx ™ can communicate through adverse ground conditions such as rain, dust, jungle and commercial air waves.
IRIS will study the Sun-Earth connection and the complex processes that occur near the surface of the Sun. Understanding energy transport on the Sun will help scientists predict space weather and its effect on Earth.
