SpaceIL and Space Micro Announce Contract and Program Cooperation

Tel-Aviv, Israel; San Diego, CA – September 15, 2014 SpaceIL and Space Micro announced today that they have signed a contract which calls for Space Micro to develop and manufacture an enhanced mission critical S-Band Transponder customized for SpaceIL’s Lunar program requirements. The two companies have also agreed to closely cooperate on this exceptionally challenging program.

SpaceIL is developing a uniquely small and smart Spacecraft in pursuit of the Google Lunar X-Prize. The program is a race, under framework restrictions, to land an unmanned Spacecraft safely on the Moon, move a minimum of 500 meters and send back HD video for global distribution.

"We are delighted to announce the selection of Space Micro. They have a strong product solution and are well supporting our program requirements through technical partnership", stated Eran Privman, SpaceIL’s CEO. "SpaceIL has received solid international awareness and support and is well positioned to successfully execute under Google Lunar X-Prize program, landing the first Israeli spacecraft on the moon."

Space Micro's CEO, David J. Strobel, commented, "We are very pleased that SpaceIL has selected Space Micro for our high performance S-Band Transponder. Space Micro’s μSTDN-100 Transponder, used in NASA’s LADEE mission configuration (also a lunar program), proved to be a strong fit for this mission. We are very excited to be on the SpaceIL team and look forward to a strong partnership."

About SpaceIL
SpaceIL is a nonprofit organization, working to land the first Israeli spacecraft on the moon. SpaceIL was founded at the end of 2010 by three young engineers: Yariv Bash, Kfir Damari and Yonatan Weintraub, who entered the Google Lunar X Prize (GLXP) competition, an international race to the moon. Being the only Israeli team in the competition, SpaceIL is building the smallest, smartest spacecraft to ever land on the moon. Through this mission, SpaceIL aspires to create a new "Apollo effect," inspiring the next generation to think differently about science, engineering, technology, and math (STEM).
